To my brother and sister Marines:

It has been five months since our 13 brothers and sisters were needlessly slaughtered in Afghanistan…five months of parents missing their kids, wives their husbands, husbands their wives, children their parents and loved ones their loves. Five months of tears and missed holidays.

That banner of ours below has hung from my deck these last five months and will continue to for another eight months until thirteen months has expired, just as they did.

These are what must be remembered on our schools, on our buildings and bridges and all memorials. These, who continued to keep us free, These, instead of politicians who take our money and name the infrastructure after themselves. These 13 are to be remembered. These 13 are to be honored. These thirteen who knew that
